Minimalist Rules

Writing these down as a reminder to myself. Minimalism isn't about owning nothing—it's about making space for what truly matters by removing the noise.

  • Buy NICE or buy TWICE — Invest in quality. One high-end item is cheaper than replacing three cheap ones over the same period.
  • If it’s not a HELL YES, then it’s a NO — Avoid the "maybe" trap. If you aren't excited about it, you don't need it.
  • DECLUTTER before organizing — You cannot organize your way out of having too much stuff.
  • If you don’t USE it, you LOSE it — The one-year rule. If it hasn't served a purpose in twelve months, let it find a new home.
  • Wish-list & WAIT — Wait 30 days before a major purchase. Most impulses fade, leaving only what’s essential.
  • A place for EVERYTHING — Every object needs a home. If it doesn't have one, it's officially clutter.
  • Don’t BUY a problem — Avoid any item that requires excessive maintenance, storage complexity, or "babysitting."
  • Have a WHY before you BUY — Every purchase should solve a specific problem or serve a clear, stated purpose.
  • The SPARK JOY rule — Keep only what genuinely contributes to your happiness and well-being.
  • If you can’t buy it in CASH, you can’t AFFORD it — Debt is an anchor. If the funds aren't there, the item shouldn't be either.
  • If you don’t evangelize for it, don’t buy it — Only bring home things you'd recommend to your best friend.
